John Rhodes
John graduated in law from Exeter University in 1973. John is the son of a German lawyer (Rechtsanwalt) and holds both British and German nationalities.
John’s area of practice is corporate and commercial transactions involving share and asset purchases, corporate reorganisation, joint ventures, intellectual property, and distribution and agency. He focuses on clients from Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
John has lived and worked in Zurich for seventeen years for a Swiss law firm; consequently he has extensive experience in private client matters with a cross-border element, including advice on domicile for tax purposes, immigration, inheritance tax and trust transactions.
John advises industrial and commercial clients is a wide variety of sectors. He remains a consultant for a Swiss law firm in Zurich.
John speaks German fluently and has a good knowledge of the Swiss-German dialect. John was first Secretary, then the Chairman of the British-German Jurists’ Association from 1986 to 2006, and also Company Secretary to the German-British Chamber of Industry and Commerce. John is co-Chair of the London Chapter and a Councillor of the British-Swiss Chamber of Commerce.
John is a guest lecturer for the LL. M. International Business Transactions and Technology Transfer Program (Drafting Contracts in the Anglointernational Context).
John’s principal interest outside the office is classical music: he sings with the Crouch End Festival Chorus and reviews concerts and opera for Seen and Heard International.
